中国金属成品的骨干公司，大多数是五、六十年代 建成投产的，在设备，工艺水平，生产能力、商品质量等方面，远远落后于工业发达国家; 虽然在七十年代晚期和八十年代前期，部分公司引入了各种类型的高速拉丝机，捻股、成绳机， 各种成品生产线等，但全职业的丝机配备水平仍较落后。据有关部门统计，当前中国拉丝机配备水平：属八十年代水平的设备约占I。15% ，六十至七十年代水平的设备约占30%， 四十至五十年代水平的设备约占55—60%。许多厂家的拉丝机仍以普通滑轮式拉丝机为主，这在很大程度上限制了成品的质量、产值的进步和种类的增加;进入 八十年代后，各成品厂家为了进步商品质量、产值，增加商种类类，纷繁从各发达国家引入各种型式的拉丝机，共计有i00多台（组），可以说世界止所有领先的 和比较领先的拉丝机，中国都 I进过;使中国的拉丝机形成了以老式滑轮拉丝机为主，兼有双卷筒式、直进式、活套式、调谐辊直线式、组合式及各种水箱拉线机并存的现状。
