This conference has four topics: policy environment, green steel technology roadmap, product upgrading, and industrial chain management. In his opening speech at the conference, Zhu Jimin pointed out that the difficult situation since the second half of last year indicates that the scale efficiency stage of Chinese steel enterprises winning by quantity has ended. The next 5-10 years will be a crucial period for China's steel industry to overcome difficulties and undergo transformation and upgrading.

Zhu Jimin pointed out that the most fundamental aspect of transformation and upgrading is to adapt to changes in the macroeconomic environment and challenges in the resource and energy environment, meet the requirements of upstream and downstream industry transformation and upgrading, and the development of strategic emerging industries. Through technological innovation, adjust the industrial structure, improve process technology, enhance product quality, vigorously save energy, reduce emissions, optimize enterprise supply chains, and promote the industry to accelerate the transformation from focusing on scale expansion to focusing on product quality and efficiency. Faced with major challenges such as climate change, tight supply of raw materials, and competition for alternative materials, technological innovation is also an inevitable choice for the global steel industry to achieve sustainable development.

Zhang Xiaogang stated in his speech that the development of the world economy has put forward new requirements for the steel industry to take the path of green and low-carbon development. The steel industry should focus on the following four aspects: first, developing new products to reduce carbon dioxide emissions during the use of steel products; Secondly, develop new processes to reduce carbon dioxide emissions during the manufacturing process of steel products; Thirdly, we must adhere to technological innovation, reduce carbon dioxide emissions from the steel system, and develop green manufacturing technologies around the lifecycle of steel products; Fourth, enhance the efficiency of the industrial value chain system, leverage the synergistic effects of production industries, and cooperate with multiple fields to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Zhang Xiaogang is full of confidence in future development. He said that steel is the most circular material in the world, and he believes that through our joint efforts, steel technology will definitely develop better, and the prospect of green steel will be even brighter.

Weng Yuqing delivered a keynote speech titled "Upgrading the Structure of Chinese Steel Products". He believes that the structure of products must adapt to changes in social structure, especially steel products that need to adapt to changes in industrial steel demand and the needs of economic transformation. Among the 22 major categories of steel products currently counted, China's self-sufficiency rate for 17 categories exceeded 100% in 2010, with only 5 categories of cold-rolled wide steel plates having a self-sufficiency rate of less than 90%, but still above 85%. However, we do not have many branded products among these varieties, nor do we have many products with special quality and stable quality control, nor do we have many products that can be developed for industrialization in the future. This is our weak link. So, if China wants to become a strong steel country, it needs to make great efforts in technology.

It is reported that the China International Steel Conference is a high-level international conference that focuses on researching and exchanging in-depth, global, and strategic issues related to the development of the steel industry. Since its establishment in 2000, it has been successfully held for six sessions. The theme conference of this meeting will be held on May 8th, and the 9th to 10th will be a technical exchange meeting. The technical exchange meeting is divided into five venues, including ironmaking technology, steelmaking technology, hot rolling technology, cold rolling and coating technology, and energy-saving and environmental protection technology. It is held in conjunction with the 13th China International Metallurgical Industry Exhibition, with a focus on innovative process technologies and energy-saving and emission reduction technologies.
